According to the report, from March 2020 to November 2021, 23% of Douyin E-Commerce consumers purchased brand new products and this share is still growing.

From January to November 2021, the volume of monthly transactions of new brands through Douyin E-commerce increased by 24% compared to the previous month. The report says the platform has become an integral part of new and emerging trends. The number of new brand products selected has quadrupled since its best-selling list came out. More than 73% of the controlled products were discounted goods and were purchased more than once a month.

In 2021, Douyin E-Commerce saw an increase in the volume of broadcasts of short videos selling products created by the latest brands. In the first three quarters of 2021 alone, the average quarterly growth rate of short video production by brand new companies exceeded 120%, while in the second quarter it was 174%.

The core business of many new brands still covers two main areas, especially food, beverages and cosmetics. However, the demand and supply of clothing, footwear, bags, personal hygiene, 3C digital home appliances, mother and child books and smart home products is diversified and new brands are promising.

In terms of gender and age preferences, the share of female consumers in the sale of new brands was much higher than that of men, and the largest share of young consumers aged 18-30 years. In terms of location, new brand consumers live mainly in high-end cities and about a third of new brand consumers in first- and new first-tier cities with strong purchasing power.

Douyin E-commerce plans to launch a special support plan next year to help sell 100 million yuan on the platform of 100 new brands.
