Robin Lord Taylor McClain and Richard in “Dance”

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 2 Episode 11 “As Nottingham Was to Robin Hood.”]

Hacker Sebastian McClain (Robin Lord Taylor) seems to be thinking about doing good in the near future. Law and order: organized crime.

Of course, Angela Whitley (Tamara Taylor) says she will help him do good, but she will be together again with Richard (Dylan McDermott) at the end of “Like Nottingham was Robin Hood” instead of being in FBI custody. d tried. (He thought he was handing over after visiting the family of the guard who caused his death.) Then the two fled together with Detective Elliot Stable (Christopher Meloni) and Sergeant Ayanna Bell (Daniel Monet Truitt).

Taylor tells what lies ahead.

Sebastian remains free, but now he is with Richard. How did Angela trust him? Because they both want to do good, don’t they?

Robin Lord Taylor: That’s right. Both are under the control of this man. The only way out is to work together. This is their only chance.

Close to your friends, close to your enemies?

Should Richard McClain worry about what he could do to her?

It’s interesting. It should be, but I honestly don’t know if Whitley is worried about anything. I don’t think anxiety is something he experienced. And the plotter. He is a snake. He looks ahead. He is a manipulator. He is not afraid of anything.

What about McClain and Richard?

Because they see the world differently, conflicts will inevitably arise and they will struggle to see who can bear each other. This dance between the two will continue, and the stakes are rising.

Can McClain do good when he’s with Richard? Will he try?

What we see in next week’s episode is how he uses Richard, he can correct some of the mistakes he made and get rid of the heavy guilt he felt. For him, this is a real prison. He was imprisoned for many years, but this is not a prison. The death of that guard was a prison, a sin that he lived every moment.

He was about to submit before he returned to Whitley. Will it happen again, or will he not think about it because of Richard?

It’s Richard’s network and the survival game at this point. He wants to do the right thing, but if you die, you can’t do the right thing.

Does McClain know what he got into with Stubler and Richard?

I’m sure he has an idea. It’s very legendary, Wheatley and Stabler are dynamic. He just wants the two of them to go to each other so that he can leave.

So do we see McClain reaching out to Stubler to help overthrow Richard?

We will see. I don’t want to spoil anything. But I’ve worked with Christopher Meloni and Dylan McDermott in these episodes, and I have to say that they are two generous guys who are incredibly kind. I am happy to play the role of a character who will be on both sides. It was really fun.

Looking ahead, which character does McClain have the most interesting relationship with? Because he was with Richard, he talked to Angela and talked to Stabler on the phone …

They’re all interesting, but I think there’s something really special about his relationship with Angela Whitley, because she’s seeing two very injured people who have a very deep, existential disease, and they’re finding each other, and there’s a connection there. This is a really human part of the story, I love making it so much and it reveals a lot about these characters.

What else can you make fun of about Sebastian McClain?

You really know how influential he is in the world. On my first day of work, the producer told me about the character and said that it was Edward Snowden. He said: “Think about it. Who are we doing here? ” And as we know, Edward Snowden, because everyone knows who he is, because of what he did. No matter how people react to what he does, you know he did it. Thus, we see the extent of Sebastian McClain, AKA Constantine, and his influence in the world.

In his first episode, they said “Constantine” and knew exactly who he was.

That’s right. He is a legend.

What was your favorite scene in the movie?

I have to shoot a scene where McLain is going out into the world in New York. We filmed in Madison Square Park, right in the middle of Manhattan. This is my first job since working in New York Gotam a few years ago. So, just coming back to Manhattan and shooting in the street is a dream come true. It’s one of those moments where I feel like I’m having an experience outside of my body, and I say, “Oh, this is really happening. This is really happening. ” There is no such feeling. So I have to say, even though it’s a small scene, I have a scene on a park bench in Madison Square Park, and it’s my favorite scene.

while talking about Gotam, Penguin vs. McClane, who comes first?

It’s hard. I would probably say Penguin, because he is a penguin, he will not die. [Laughs] But I think he will definitely try Whitley and McClean will try to work with him. So use McClean as much as you can, and then slap him.

McClain’s desire to do good may be a weakness.

It is the truth. It’s funny too, because I love this character. It reminds me a little of the Penguin. They are similar to the Penguin being a very bad person, but you can see the fragments of humanity inside him, and McClain is the opposite. He is a man, and then bad things happen, and it’s not necessarily his fault. They are complicated. They are tragic figures in their own right.

Netflix Should Face Chess Great’s ‘Queens Gambit’ Litigation

Netflix Should Face Chess Great's 'Queens Gambit' Litigation

A judge on Thursday refused to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a Georgia chess master who allegedly defamed an episode of the Netflix series “The Queen’s Gambit.”

Nona Gaprindashvili, a prominent Soviet chess player in the 1960s, sued Netflix in a federal court in September. She challenged a line in the series where Gaprindashvili falsely stated that she had “never met a man”. Gaprindashvili claimed that the line was “extremely sexist and demeaning,” noting that by 1968, the year the series began, it actually faced 59 male competitors.

Netflix tried to dismiss the lawsuit, alleging that the show was fictional and that the First Amendment gave the show’s creators a broad artistic license.

But in Thursday’s ruling, US District Judge Virginia A. Phillips disagreed with the fact that Gaprindashvili had made plausible allegations that she had defamed her. Phillips also argued that fictional works are not exempt from defamation lawsuits if they defame a real person.

“Netflix does not cite cases that exclude defamation claims depicting real people in fictional works,” Phillips wrote, “and the courts are not aware of it.” “The fact that a series is a work of fiction does not protect Netflix from liability for defamation if all elements of the defamation exist otherwise.”

‘Queen’s Gambit’ is based on the novel by Walter Tevis in 1983 and tells the story of Beth Harmon, a fictional American who became an international chess champion in the 1960s. In the final episode, set in Moscow, Harmon defeats her male rival. The chess announcer explains that her opponent underestimated him. Her only peculiarity about her is actually her sex. And it’s not just in Russia. She has Nona Gaprindashvili, but she is a women’s world champion and has never played against a man.”

Netflix relied on two chess experts to get the details right, and claimed that the show’s creators didn’t offend Gaprindashvili.

The streamer’s lawyer argued that “the reference to the plaintiff in the series is not intended to disparage her, but to acknowledge her.”

In her ruling, Phillips noted that the show’s theme had to do with breaking gender barriers. But she said the show could be seen as building on the fictitious Harmon’s achievements by ignoring the real Gaprindashvili’s.

“The average viewer would ‘disparage the achievements of the plaintiff’ of Line as plaintiff asserts.[ying] ‘The stigma that women bear the symbol of inferiority’ could be overcome by the fictional American woman Harmon, but not by the plaintiffs,” the judge wrote. “At least, that line ignores the achievements that are essential to the reputation of the plaintiff.”

Netflix relied heavily on an appeal ruling in a similar case involving actress Olivia de Havilland. In that case, de Havilland sued FX Networks for opposing her portrayal in the Ryan Murphy series “Feud”. The Court of Appeal dismissed the suit, finding that the creators had considerable artistic freedom to portray real people. The ruling was well received in the entertainment industry.

The de Havilland incident involves fictional dialogues between actors who play real people. The Court of Appeal ruled that these scenes would be understood as an adaptation rather than a transcribed script from real life. Phillips ruled that otherwise, viewers could leave the show with the false impression that Gaprindashvili had never met a man.

Netflix also states that “The Queen’s Gambit” is “characters and events depicted in this show are fictitious. It is not intended to depict real people or events.” However, the judge ruled that it was not sufficient to dispel the notion that the show was making factual claims.

“Therefore, in context, Netflix[ed] impression that [it] were asserting objective facts,’ wrote Phillips. “Plaintiff asserts sufficiently false that Line is ‘reasonably sensitive to interpretations that imply verifiable false claims of fact’.”

Netflix declined to comment on the ruling.

EDIT: This story originally portrayed Gaprindashvili as a Russian. She is from the Republic of Georgia.
