Shawn Mendes brings the nostalgic Summer of Love with his new single, which is out today (August 20).

The music video depicts Mendes and his nearly shirtless friends enjoying their summer vacation in the Balearic Islands in Spain. They cruise the highway in convertibles, splash in the waves, bask in the sun, sail boats, drink and have fun in clubs. Mendes can also be seen playing guitar through a window.

“It was a summer of love / sweet dream,” he sings over the chorus of a slightly electronic melody performed by Puerto Rican producer Tiny. “And for a couple of months. It felt like we were 18 ”. Mendes also shouts out his hit single with his girlfriend Camila Cabello, “Senorita”, in the lyrics: “Calling you my señorita”.

Director Mattie Peacock filmed the video in Mallorca. Peacock previously directed Shawn’s “Miracle” video, as well as videos for Selena Gomez, Billie Eilish, Khalid and others.

“I hope this song will make people feel free, free from the burden of life, even for a moment,” Mendes said in a statement. “The inspiration was a few months to spend a real summer with the people I love. … What I enjoyed the most was working in the studio with Tiny. It was a very special experience with him because he is such an incredible artist and an amazing producer. “

Secrets also shared his pleasant experience of collaborating with the 23-year-old artist. “To be honest, working with Sean was so easy and organic. He’s a real musician and vocalist, but otherwise the energy he brought into the studio was super-authentic, so making good music together just flowed, ”he said. “There is chemistry, and you can hear it in music. SOL (Summer Of Love) has a very “summer vibe” led by basic guitars and chords, so I just wanted to give it more movement and heavy bass. That, combined with Sean’s vocals, suited him perfectly. “

Mendes first teased his new song is tweeted on August 4th with a short video of him playing guitar. The tweet was titled “sol”, which is Spanish for “sun.” Two days later he published a video of him driving a convertible through the mountains at sunset and playing snippets of his new song. Then, on his 23rd birthday, he officially announced the single cover track.

The day before the single’s release on August 19, Mendes set up a pop-up store in New York, where fans lined up to meet him and buy merchandise for the track. The fans can be heard screaming with excitement.

“Summer of Love” is Mendes’ second single in 2021. He previously collaborated with Colombian singer Camilo on a remix of Kesi.

Mendes also released his fourth studio album, Wonder, back in December 2020. It debuted # 1 in the United States. Billboard 200 and Canadian Albums charts, with singles “Wonder” and “Monster”, which are among the top 20 in the United States. Billboard Hot 100.

Olivia Rodrigo brought her Sour The prom movie comes to life at the 2021 VMA on Sunday night (September 12), descending into Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on a rainbow cloud as lush as her dress. Her partymates, dapper in retro suits and ruffled dresses, waited downstairs on purple tables heaped with holiday cups for the characteristic opening notes of “Good 4 U”.

When the five-time VMA nominee (and new winner) landed, she infused the party with her “spicy Pisces energy”, driving her team into an enviable rage matching the heartbroken alarm over the fan-favorite single. Welcome to Olivia’s pop-punk prom, where moshing and wild dancing are welcome, and lots of sparks.

It was a hugely successful year for the Best New Artist nominee, who was also nominated for Artist of the Year, Best Pop for Good 4 U, and Song of the Year and Best Performance of the Year for her record driving rights”. … ” Sour, a masterful coming-of-age story released last May via Geffen Records, showcases her talent and versatility as a songwriter. Fans could turn up the volume and shout to the angry choruses “Good 4 U” and “Brutal,” immerse themselves in their feelings for “Happier” and “Favorite Crime,” and then feel the bittersweet longing of “Hope Ur Ok. “As she told MTV News earlier this year, the record reflects a time in her life when“ everything I had that was really cool and good in my life went really bad. ”

Her amazing performance at the VMA reflected those emotions – a surprisingly human, tangled mess of anger mixed with sadness, mixed with confidence, especially during the climactic lyrics “like a damn sociopath” on the bridge. Then a rain of confetti rained down on the Barclays crowd, and the poor camera couldn’t handle the excitement. The show ended with a resounding success, but the VMA night is far from over.

Hot Girl Summer, welcome Summer of Love.

Pop singer / songwriter Shawn Mendes and electronic producer / songwriter Tainey performed their sun-drenched hit single at the 2021 Video Music Awards on Sunday (September 12) and they brought warmth. The set opened with Mendes humming to the crowd in fluttering trousers and a loose-knit striped sweater.

In the middle of the stage, the stage turned red, and blue lights shone brightly on Mendes and Tiny, who were playing the keys. The lighting became more and more bright throughout the performance, until the entire stage began to resemble a neon sunset. Oh summer … we already miss you.

Both Mendes and Tiny were contenders for this year’s VMA: Mendes for Best Pop for his hit single “Wonder” and Tiny for Best Latin American Music for “Una Dia (One Day)”, his collaboration with rapper J. Balvin and Future nostalgia diva Dua Lipa.

Mendes and Tiny’s performance of “Summer of Love” was their first performance at the VMA as a duo, but Mendes had already commanded the VMA stage three times. Most recently, the Canadian artist cheered up in 2019 with a sensual performance of “Senõrita” with his girlfriend and co-worker Camila Cabello. (Cinderella fans, you’re in luck: Cabello also graced the stage at the 2021 VMA!)
